Handful of Pros Complete Final Tune-Up This Weekend For Ironman Texas

With less than three weeks to go until the inaugural Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas, just a handful of the 63 professionals that are due here in The Woodlands competed this past weekend across the United States and in Australia.

The most impressive showing came at Ironman 70.3 St. Croix in the Virgin Islands from Scotland's Catriona Morrison as she won her third straight event and her second 70.3 in less than a month with a come-from-behind 4:29:58 victory.

She was fourth out of the water and took the lead on the bike and held it. New Jersey's Jacqui Gordon was seventh in 4:59:24.

In the men's race at St. Croix, Australia's Luke Bell was second in 4:11:59, just 16 seconds behind winner Makysm Kriat, while France's Romain Guillaume finished sixth in 4:24:31 after being second coming out of the water.

In Australia, New Zealand's 38-year-old Joanna Lawn finished the IM 70.3 Port Macquarie in 4:29:36 while countryman Jason Shortis, who is 41, finished second in IM Western Australia in 8:46:07.

At the AVIA Wildflower Triathlon in Bradley, California, Austin's Desiree Ficker, 35, tuned up for Ironman Texas with an eighth-place, 4:46:03 finish while Phoenix, Arizona's Lewis Elliot, 31, was 15th in the men's race in 4:19:11.

Rounding out the professional activity, Jan Raphael finished 30th out of 39 male professionals at the St. Anthony's Triathlon in Florida - part of Ironman's new 5150 Series - in 1:49:02.
