As part of his training for the inaugural Memorial Hermann Ironman Texas, 39-year-old Tate Wright of The Woodlands posted an impressive half marathon performance on Sunday at Angie's Half Crazy Half Marathon in Clear Lake in conditions that were anything but.
Wright, who trains with Michelle LeBlanc's Outrival Racing, led all local runners with a time of 1:27:08 -- good for third in the 35-39 age group and one spot behind Kingwood (Texas) Half Marathon winner Kerry Lee of the Bay Area Running Club.
This year's Bill Crews Remission Run 5K overall winner Denise Kretzschmar, 31, of New Caney easily won her 30-34 age group by more than four minutes with a 1:41:53 showing.
Like Wright, Magnolia's Robert Simmons also got stuck behind another fast BARCer.
Simmons, 42, finished second in his age group in 1:36:11 -- less than a minute behind winner John Nicodemus, 41, of the the Bay Area Running Club.
Spring's Mary Carter, 48, was sixth in her age group in 2:04:22.
